Right-Side vs Left-Side Abdominal Pain: What Each Location Can Mean

Right-Side vs Left-Side Abdominal Pain: What Each Location Can Mean

Where you feel pain can tell us a lot.

Upper right side: can be gallbladder, liver, or bile duct irritation. Often a sharp ache after eating fried or fatty foods.
Upper middle (just below the ribs): burning or gnawing pain may be stomach irritation, reflux, or an ulcer.
Lower right: we pay close attention here because this area includes the appendix.
Lower left: sometimes related to the colon (constipation, diverticular irritation).
Across the whole belly with bloating: can be gas, irritation of the intestines, or a “stomach bug.”

Here’s the rule: pain that is intense, worsening, or paired with fever is not “just gas” anymore.

What to do:
If you’re having strong pain on one side — especially the lower right — and it’s getting worse, go to GI Urgent Care of Florida for same-day assessment.

If it’s a nagging, repeat pattern you’ve had for weeks, schedule with Digestive & Liver Centers of Florida. We’ll help you get to the root cause.
