When Stomach Pain Is an Emergency: 7 Red-Flag Symptoms You Shouldn’t Ignore

Stomach pain is common. But certain types of pain mean “don’t wait this out.”
You should be seen immediately if you have:
- Severe pain that comes on suddenly and doesn’t let up
- Fever and chills with stomach pain
- Vomiting that won’t stop
- Vomit that looks like coffee grounds or has blood in it
- Black or bloody stool
- Pain on the lower right side that gets worse when you move or cough
- Yellowing of your eyes/skin plus upper belly pain
These can mean infection, inflammation, a blocked organ, internal bleeding, appendicitis, gallbladder inflammation, or other urgent problems.
What to do:
If you have any of the red-flag symptoms above, do not “wait and see.” You should be evaluated today at GI Urgent Care of Florida, where you can be seen same day by a GI-focused team.
If the pain is mild, not constant, and you don’t have any red flags, you can call Digestive & Liver Centers of Florida to schedule an appointment for evaluation and ongoing care.
